PADI’s Wreck Diver course is an interesting, fun speciality programme, introducing you to some fascinating new dive sites. Based in Bristol, we have many dive sites in reach where the Wreck Diver qualification can be put to use - the Kyarra wreck from Swanage, the superb HMS Scylla from Plymouth and even the world famous wrecks of Scapa Flow in Scotland are just a days drive away! All of these dive sites, and many more around the UK and the world, are opened up to a qualified Wreck Diver!

The Hidden Depths Difference

With the variety of wreck dives on offer around the UK, it won’t come as a surprise to you that our dive team love diving on wrecks! With vast experience diving on a huge variety of wrecks - ships, submarines, planes and even flooded mines (which have a lot in common with sunken wrecks) we’re perfectly placed to pass over our skills and knowledge in this specialist diving area. We’ve also been diving at famous wreck dive locations such as Scapa Flow and Malin Head, so we can discuss what’s needed to dive these awesome wrecks.

Who Should Take The Course?

The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices. The course is open to anyone aged 15 and older with an Adventure Diver rating or higher, who wishes to safely explore the wide variety of wreck dives open to divers around the world.

What Will You Learn?

The Wreck Diver course starts by teaching you guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance. You will also find out about the vast array of wrecks you can dive on, which isn’t limited to just ship wrecks.

After some practice on dry land, you will map a wreck and evaluate suitability for a penetration dive. You will also learn to lay and retrieve a guideline on a wreck dive with a buddy, whilst practicing finning techniques that minimise disturbing silt and avoid damage to the wreck.

Where Is The Course Held?

This course is best held on sunken wrecks in the sea around the UK. We offer locations such as Portland, Swanage and Plymouth which are all excellent options, with a wide varieties of wreck dives available. We also have the option to run the course at an inland dive site near Bristol, or if you fancy combing the course with a warm water trip why not enquire about taking your course on the great wrecks around Malta & Gozo?

What Scuba Kit Will You Use?

You’ll need your basic scuba equipment, plus a dive torch to see into the wreck, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation, and a line and reel for practicing wreck penetration. A redundant air source is also highly recommended If you are unsure if your equipment set up is suitable for wreck diving please contact us and we can discuss this with you and make recommendations for you to consider before, during and after the course.
