The Fun Part

There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to – after all, human beings haven’t evolved to do that – but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, you realise how easy scuba diving really is. We introduce basic skills, as well as playing some simple games in the pool to give you a great feel for the underwater world.

The biggest challenge our instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is not coaxing you into the water, but coaxing you out when the dive is over!

What You Learn

Before the dive, complete the Discover Scuba Diving eLearning programme on the PADI App or website, which introduces you to the basic safety procedures and scuba hand signals, as well as showing you the scuba gear you’re going to use on your dive. You also complete all your paperwork online, allowing even more time to enjoy the dive when you arrive at the pool!

When you arrive at the pool we introduce you to your instructor, take you through a dive briefing, and answer any questions you have about scuba. We then move onto the pool side, with time to get changed, before we help you into your dive kit in shallow water.

In the water you learn the basics you need to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. The first thing you’ll learn is that you really can breathe underwater! You will also:

  • Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to move around underwater while wearing it.
  • Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater and learn whether you can be comfortable there.
  • Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step.

Plus, you can get credit for the dive - If you continue into the PADI Open Water Diver course we can give credit for the skills you’ve already covered during your first dive, and we even credit your Discover Scuba Dive cost against the Open Water Diver course! This means your first dive is free when you sign up for the full course with us following your Discover Scuba Dive.

The Scuba Gear You Will Use

All the equipment you need is included in your Discover Scuba Diving experience. Our Discover Scuba Dives are held in a pool so you won’t need a wetsuit, as the water temperature is nice and warm! Just bring your normal swimming kit and a t-shirt to wear in the water, and we provide the rest. All our training equipment is thouroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses for your piece of mind.

Where Is The Dive Held?

Our pool try dives are held at Thornbury Leisure Centre pool on a Thursday evening from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Thornbury is a great location for your first dive, with a private briefing room where you will be introduced to your instructor and go through your dive briefing, before you move into the large heated swimming pool. We have private use of the whole swimming pool, so there is plenty of space to explore during your dive!
