Tec 40

Tec 40 Course

The PADI Tec 40 course is the first of PADI’s technical diving courses and introduces you to the world of decompression diving. Our tech team are regularly deep diving in the UK and overseas, so you’re going to be learning from people who are actually out doing the dives you aspire to undertake.

Who should take this course?

Have you been diving at your favourite deep dive site, and had to leave the bottom having reached your ‘no stop’ limit? Even using enriched air, eventually your computer will tell you it’s time to leave. If this sounds familiar then the tech route might be right for you. The Tec 40 course is designed to link PADI’s recreational and technical programmes together, and train you to make limited decompression dives.

What will you learn?

During this three day course you will learn the risks associated with technical diving. You will also explore the theory behind decompression diving, and why your dive computer gives you the no stop limits it does. You will use desktop planning software to plan decompression dives with a maximum total decompression time of 10 minutes and to a maximum depth of 40m. Using your Tec Deep Diver Crewpak you will complete Knowledge Reviews and take the Tec 40 Diver final exam.

In the water you will learn a new set of skills based around diving a twinset and decompression cylinder. We will explore the redundancy benefits a twinset offers to divers, and how this helps manage emergencies that could arise underwater. Your buoyancy, trim and propulsion techniques are also honed, so you can remain stable and in control at all times during the dive.

Where is the course held?

We can use inland dive sites to complete the Tec 40 course, dives in the sea or a mix of both. Local inland sites offer easy entry and training locations for the skills portion of the course. Locations such as Portland, Lyme Regis and Plymouth have excellent sites for you to take your final course dives on exciting local wrecks. If you fancy somewhere warmer why not enquire about taking your course on the wrecks around Malta & Gozo? We are happy to travel to you for the course, so please get in touch to discuss your options.

What scuba kit will you use?

Although the Tec 40 course can be taken in a modified recreational scuba set up, those planning on progressing into the Tec 45 programme and beyond will find it more suitable to take the course in a full tech set up which is required from Tec 45 onwards. This includes a twinset with isolating manifold and other redundant items. A dry suit is essential if taking the course in the UK. You will also be using a decompression cylinder on all dives. Hire kit is available for the course, however having your own kit is highly recommended.
