PADI Night Diver Course
As the sun sets, you put on your dive gear, slip on your scuba mask and take a breath from your regulator. One more inhale and you step off the jetty or boat – into the underwater night. Although you’ve dived here many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light.
Who Should Take This Course?
The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so appealing. Although you’ve been scuba diving at a site many times before, at night you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your torch. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you’ve wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, sign up for the PADI Night Diver Specialty course. Divers aged 12 and above can join us on the next course!
What Will You Learn?
Scuba diving at night teaches you to focus on what you can see in your light’s beam, on controlling your buoyancy by feel, on staying with your buddy and on paying attention to details you may overlook during the day. During three night dives, you’ll practice light handling and communication techniques, entering, exiting and navigating in the dark, as well as identifying how plants and animals differ or change behaviour at night.
- Night dive planning, organisation, procedures, techniques and potential problems
- How to control your buoyancy at night
- Entries, exits and underwater navigation at night
- Nocturnal aquatic life, since many of the plants and animals you'll see are different
What Scuba Kit Will You Use?
Night diving can be done with very little change to your regular scuba kit. You will need a primary torch and a back up light too, and possibly a little extra exposure protection after dark, but aside from that your kit should be good to go!
