Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try a scuba dive our PADI Discover Scuba Dives based in Bristol will let you experience scuba diving to see what it’s all about. While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a fun, safe and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

Our dives include a briefing to introduce you to the scuba gear you’re going to use on your dive, and also makes sure you’re comfortable with basic safety procedures and scuba hand signals. We then move onto the pool side, with time to get changed, before we help you into your dive kit in shallow water.

The Fun Part

There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to – after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that – but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, you realise how easy scuba diving really is. We introduce basic skills, as well as playing some simple games in the pool to give you a great feel for the underwater world.

The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is not coaxing you into the water, but coaxing you out when the dive is over!

What You Learn

You learn the basics you need to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. One thing you’ll learn is that you really can breathe underwater! You will also:

  • Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to move around underwater while wearing it
  • Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater and learn whether you can be comfortable there
  • Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step

Plus, you can get credit for the dive – If you continue into the PADI Open Water Diver course we can give credit for the skills you’ve already covered during your first dive, and we even credit your Discover Scuba Dive cost against the Open Water Diver course! This means your first dive is free when you sign up for the full course following your Discover Scuba Dive.

Our pool try dives are held across two locations in Bristol. You can choose the pool session that suits you best, with dives held weekly at both locations. Choose your dive at Winterbourne International Academy pool on a Monday evening from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, or at Thornbury Leisure Centre pool on a Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm.

All the equipment you need is included in your Discover Scuba Diving experience. Our Discover Scuba Dives are held in a pool so you won’t need a wetsuit, as the water temperature is nice and warm! Just bring your normal swimming kit and a t-shirt to wear in the water, and we provide the rest.
